Child education concept
The company responsible for the listing explains that what appears like "extravagance or oddity" is in fact "intentional investment in early education".

"A family residing in the northern part of London is looking for an remarkable and experienced tutor to guide their most junior child on his early path to growing into an British gentleman."

When reading this post, you might naturally miss the phrase "beginning" as mere an expression.

Yet, it may be the crucial aspect of this distinctive position posting, as it attempts to hire a teacher for a 12-month-old.

Hundreds of submissions have already been submitted since the unnamed family published their request for the £180k-a-year tutor, who has to be "someone very special".

During the past few weeks, the post has gained interest across the media, with numerous asking why?

Forward-Thinking Method

Adam Caller, head and founder of a global tutoring firm, which is assisting the family in their hunt, said that in spite of first skepticism, he viewed the idea "far sighted", and "progressive".

When he spoke with the family, he said they understood the unconventional character of their demand, and how immature their son is.

Nevertheless, they explained that they "didn't want to wait any longer" to get a tutor, as they had held off until their older child was five, and by that age "cultural influence had by then taken hold".

What exactly does the family refer to by "cultural leaning"?

It's "everything", he answered. "The way you eat, how you speak".

He stated the elder child had absorbed "very nuanced, non-verbal cues" from the family, and had assumed their cultural norms. The family told the consultant they hoped to prevent history to recur with their younger child.

The strategy: To hire a English tutor, who must speak with Received Pronunciation, to shape the baby from the very start.

Tutoring discussion
Tutors International claim the listing has sparked a wider discussion about how parents perceive schooling, privilege and the role of cultural environment in development.

Osmotic Learning

"Much of the education at the outset here is rather absorbed naturally," stated Adam.

It's by means of this natural absorption that the family are expecting the child will adopt the British traits they want to impart.

He explained the tutor must be an individual who attended "prestigious academies – comparable categories of schools as the family plan to send their son to".

"The tutor must be the right kind of person, they'll be performing things they may not realize they're doing, just naturally," he added.

Expense Not a Factor

The family informed the expert the selected educator should preferably also have understanding of or passion in riding, alpine skiing, artistic pursuits and instrumental training so as to influence the child in a wide range of passions.

Additionally though, he stated the family desired the tutor to sign up the child on a variety of classes so the child would be "pony-riding and picking up an musical instrument by the time they are around three years old".

In the family's view, guiding their son grow into a "English gentleman" will bring about accomplishment and create opportunities.

"For all the rights and wrongs of that, because it's definitely a status symbol," he comments.

Yet, in spite of all this tutelage in "Britishness", would the child absorb alleged cultural leaning from the globally influenced family he is raised by in any case?

"Certainly", replied the CEO. "They understand this may not work, but they've just taken the attitude of, 'let's give it a go and we should start as soon as we can', because the cost of it is irrelevant," he explained.

Idealistic and Unrealistic

A number of in the tutoring industry who have similar reservations.

An education leader, CEO and founder of Blue Education, who also offer personal educators, stated that "the journey of becoming bicultural, or actually, becoming oneself, is something that must be grown into, not designed."

Peter noted that he had emigrated from the Far East to the Britain at the period of childhood, and had been educated experiencing and embodying two backgrounds. He continued to be educated at Cambridge University.

The executive was the first person born in the People's Republic of China to be elected to the role of Finance Head of the university debating society.

"The concept that a single person can act as a representation of Britishness, someone who can in some way transfer the characteristics of a UK sophisticate upon a one-year-old child, appears idealistic and unrealistic," he wrote.

"Based on my background, engaging a quintessentially UK tutor from infancy will does not automatically achieve the goal they hope for.

"I never had such a figure, and however I have been lucky enough to experience several of the opportunities they aspire for their son."

He continued: "The fact is, cultural identity can not be dictated from the external environment; it must be selected, and it must come from within."

Purchasing UK Culture

Naturally, Britishness is something Adam believes can be taught – and marketed.

"I think the situation that the international society holds us in this light is something that we should be cherishing|valuing|appreciating
